What are the requirements to become an overhead forklift operator?

Forklifts next to a warehouse rackOne significant advantage of overhead forklifts is that you do not need specific qualifications (WJO category) to become their operator. You only need to:
  • be at least 18 years old,
  • complete basic OHS training,
  • have written permission from the facility manager,
  • possess a medical certificate confirming fitness for the job of forklift operator.
However, comprehensive preparation for starting work as an overhead forklift driver will help you quickly find employment and perform your job effectively!

What does training for overhead forklift operators look like?

The training of future overhead forklift operators consists of two parts: theoretical and practical. Our training program is based on a set of essential topics required to acquire the necessary skills for the profession. The training is conducted by qualified staff with years of experience, and each trainee receives individual attention. Our trainees will become familiar with:

  • types of close proximity transport equipment,
  • the structure of overhead forklifts,
  • types of overhead forklifts,
  • occupational health and safety principles and hazards,
  • safe operation principles,
  • practical exercises.

After completing the training, each trainee receives a course completion certificate.

We provide training on state-of-the-art forklifts from manufacturers such as Linde, Still, Nissan, Jungheinrich, and Toyota.

Training for operators in unorganized groups is available in Warsaw. For organized groups, we also offer real-time online training for the theoretical part, with practical training taking place at a location chosen by the group with the arrival of our staff.

Types of Overhead Forklifts

Overhead forklifts are categorized by drive type:
  • manual overhead forklifts - simple construction and cost-effective, without electric drive, easy to operate;
  • electric overhead forklifts - equipped with electric drive, offering better efficiency and speed compared to manually operated forklifts.
However, there are also other types of overhead forklifts:
  • platform,
  • overhead fork,
  • lift and carry,
  • gate,
  • single-beam,
  • double-beam gate.

What Are Overhead Forklifts?

Overhead forklifts are manually or electrically powered machines equipped with forks that lift loads. They do not have masts, and the transported load can only be raised to a height of 30 cm. Overhead forklifts are commonly referred to as "pallet jacks" and are most often used in warehouse halls or commercial facilities.
