Shipboard cranes

The Training Center for Operators conducts courses for certifications in ship cranes and other types of machinery used for close-range transport. Our educational company offers experienced and qualified staff. We train only on the latest machines and adhere to safety regulations. Our center provides comprehensive preparation for the UDT exam. Both theoretical and practical lessons will help you acquire the necessary qualifications and skills for operating deck cranes (and more).

What Does Training at the Operator Training Center Look Like?

Training for ship crane operators consists of two parts: theoretical and practical. Our training program covers the essential topics required for obtaining UDT certifications. Our students will become familiar with:
  • Types of close-range transport devices,
  • The concept of crane statics,
  • Construction of ship cranes,
  • Risks and occupational safety rules,
  • Rules for safe operation,
  • The practical component,
  • Theoretical part of the UDT certification exam.
After our training, students take the certification exam at the Technical Inspection Office and receive a certificate of course completion.
Requirements for participating in the course and the UDT exam:
  • At least basic education,
  • Age of at least 18 years,
  • Relevant medical certificate.
Validity of UDT certification
Certifications for ship cranes must be renewed every 5 years.
Our Offer for On-Site Training
Operator training in unorganized groups is available in Warsaw, Katowice, Krakow, and Bielsko-Biała. For organized groups, online courses with real-time theoretical components and practical components at a chosen location with our personnel are also available.
In our training offer, we have courses for EVERY TYPE of crane, as well as many other courses for certifications to operate close-range transport devices such as:
  • Forklifts,
  • Lift platforms,
  • Hydraulic boom lifts (HDS),
  • Overhead cranes,
  • Conveyors.

What Are Deck Cranes?

Deck cranes are machines used in maritime, port, and offshore transportation. They are used for moving heavy loads and more. Floating cranes can have their own propulsion or remain stationary. To operate ship cranes, you need the necessary certifications issued by the Technical Inspection Office.
Applications of ship cranes:
  • Maritime transport,
  • Port transport,
  • Load handling,
  • At sea.
There are two types of ship cranes:
  • Rotating jib cranes - these devices are mounted on a shaft and can rotate 360 degrees. This type of crane is more expensive to build and more complex to operate, but it is more versatile and efficient when handling heavy loads,
  • Fixed jib cranes - these devices can only move forward and backward, as well as lift and lower loads. Lateral movement occurs only when the ship rotates. Cranes of this type are cheaper and simpler in construction and, due to their stability, can handle larger loads.
Ship cranes are divided into:
  • Mobile (HDS) - mounted on the chassis of trucks. Most commonly used at construction sites,
  • Transportable - mounted on trailers as they do not have their own propulsion. Used for transporting logs in the forestry industry,
  • Stationary - permanently mounted on the ground, for example, in industrial halls. Used for moving lightweight loads,
  • Self-propelled - mounted on heavy-duty truck chassis. Used for transporting loads of up to several hundred tons,
  • Floating - designed to float on water independently,
  • Deck - mounted on ships,
  • Rail-mounted - move on specially constructed rails,
  • Railway - used in the railway industry,
  • Tower - used on large construction sites.
