Advanced Rope Access Techniques
The IRATA Level 2 course is the next step in the professional development path for rope access technicians who already hold experience and an IRATA Level 1 certificate. The course is intended for those who want to upgrade their qualifications, expand practical skills, and gain the authorization to perform more advanced rope access work – including roles such as standby rescue and team support.
The training program is based on international IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) standards, recognized worldwide as the benchmark for safe, effective, and responsible rope access operations. The IRATA Level 2 certificate opens the door to more demanding projects and higher positions in the industry.
Who is the IRATA Level 2 Training For?
The IRATA Level 2 training is intended for individuals who:
- Hold a valid IRATA Level 1 certificate,
- Can document at least 1000 hours of rope access work (recorded in the IRATA logbook),
- Have worked as a rope access technician for at least 12 months since obtaining Level 1,
- Want to further their career as an advanced rope access technician or future supervisor (Level 3).
IRATA Level 2 Course Content
During the 5-day course, participants acquire the necessary skills to independently and safely carry out advanced rope access tasks. The program includes, among others:
✅ Advanced rope access movement techniques,
✅ Providing back-up and support to other rope access workers,
✅ Complex rescue techniques – casualty rescue using ropes and descent systems,
✅ Rope system configuration – re-belays, deviations, double rope systems,
✅ Risk assessment and compliance with IRATA procedures,
✅ Teamwork and communication,
✅ Use and inspection of advanced rope access equipment.
The course concludes with a practical and theoretical examination conducted by an independent IRATA assessor.
Participation Requirements
To take part in the IRATA Level 2 training, the candidate must:
- Hold a valid IRATA Level 1 certificate,
- Provide documentation of at least 1000 hours of rope access work and 12 months of experience.
